Petitioners have approached this Court seeking the following reliefs:- “(i) Issue a writ, order or direction in the nature of mandamus commanding the respondent nos. 2 and 3 to provide the adequate security to the life and liberty of the petitioners. (ii) Issue a writ, order or direction in the nature of mandamus commanding respondent nos. 3 to 12, not to interfere in the personal life and liberty of the petitioners.” 4. It is submitted by learned counsel for the petitioners that both the petitioners are major. Petitioner No. 1 is aged about 22 years while petitioner no. 2 is aged about 18 years. It is also submitted that they belong to the same faith. It is further submitted that petitioners developed a liking for each other, which has ended in love and they have solemnized their marriage on 17.08.2026, as per Hindu Rites and Rituals at Shiv Mandir, Roshnabad, District Haridwar and have also applied for registration of their marriage under the provisions of UCC, but, their marriage was not registered due to some technical glitch since phone number linked to the Aadhar of petitioner no. 2 is with the father of petitioner no. 2. 5. Since the family members and other relatives of petitioner no. 2 are against this marriage, they are giving out threats to kill both the petitioners. Petitioners submit that they are facing stiff resistance, and they seriously apprehend threat to their life and limb from their family members, and hence they are before this Court praying for protection. 6. In that view of the matter, and in view of the ruling of the Hon'ble Supreme Court in the case of Lata Singh Vs State of U.P. and another, (2006) 5 SCC 475, the petitioners have made out a case for grant of protection. 7. The Station House Officer, Police Station Laksar, District Haridwar is directed to assess the threat, if any, to the life and limb of the petitioners, and provide necessary protection, if it is found that there is a threat to the life and limb of the petitioners. The S.H.O. concerned is further directed to summon the private respondents, and such other persons, who are inimically placed towards the marriage of the petitioners, and counsel them, in accordance with law. 8. State is also directed to advise the S.H.O. concerned, not to unnecessary harass and victimize the relatives of petitioner no.1. 9. The writ petition stands ordered accordingly.
