Also heard learned Additional Public Prosecutor for the State. 2. This is an application filed under Section 483 of the BNSS, 2023 seeking regular bail in connection with Dispur P.S. Case No. 272/2026 under Section 178/179/180 of the BNS, 2023, in which Page No.# 2/3 the petitioner was arrested on 09.05.2026. 3. As per the allegations, the brief fact of the case is that on 09.05.2026, the Complainant, SI (P) Hiranya Phukon, I/C ERRS-7 of Dispur PS, M/No-9395399250, lodged an FIR at Dispur PS stating that on 09.05.2026, during his patrolling duty at Khanapara, Sixmile, and Beltola areas under Dispur PS, he noticed and intercepted the accused person, namely Aijul Ahmed Hussain, 29 years, s/o Sri Amir Hussain, r/o Tekeliputa, PS Samoguri, District Nagaon, Assam, for suspicious movement. Upon a search conducted in the presence of witnesses, the police recovered two bundles of suspected Fake Indian Currency Notes (FICN) of Rs. 500/- denomination (160 notes in total) and one Itel keypad mobile phone with two SIMs (Nos. 8812928740 and 7896402785). The notes were wrapped in black polythene and bore serial Nos. 7QF-356241 and 4CL-509906. Accordingly, the recovered articles were seized vide Dispur PS GDE No. 01 dated 09.05.2026 in the presence of witnesses. Hence the case. 4. It is submitted on behalf of the petitioner that he was travelling in a night bus and had got down at Khanapara, where he kept his bag at a tea stall to answer the call of nature. However, the police seized the said bag and recovered the aforesaid fake currency, of which the petitioner had no knowledge. He submits that someone else had placed the fake currency in his bag. 5. The aforesaid explanation appears to be implausible, as no reason has been shown as to why someone else would seek to target the petitioner, who is a driver by profession. 6. Having regard to the material available in the Case Diary and also to the fact that the alleged offence poses a threat to the economy of the country, the offence has to be regarded as one of a serious nature consequently, the prayer for bail stands rejected at this stage, notwithstanding the length of detention of 67 days. 7.
