The petitioners have approached this Court seeking the following relief: "i. Issue a writ, order or direction in the nature of mandamus directing respondent Nos. 1 and 2 to provide adequate protection to the petitioners." 3. Learned counsel for the petitioners submits that both the petitioners are major and have solemnized their Nikah on 18.07.2026. It is further submitted that the petitioners intend to register their marriage under the provisions of the Uniform Civil Code after obtaining protection from this Court. Learned counsel further submits that the petitioners apprehend a threat to their life and personal liberty at the hands of respondent Nos. 3 to 6. Accordingly, the petitioners seek appropriate directions for protection of their life and personal liberty. 4. Having heard learned counsel for the parties and upon perusal of the material available on record, this Court, in the light of the law laid down by the Hon'ble Supreme Court in Lata Singh v. State of U.P. and Another, is of the prima facie opinion that the petitioners have made out a case for protection of their life and personal liberty guaranteed under Article 21 of the Constitution of India. 5. Accordingly, the Station House Officer, Police Station Kichha, District Udham Singh UKHC010128452026 2026:UHC:6176 Nagar, is directed to assess the threat perception, if any, to the life and personal liberty of the petitioners. In the event any genuine threat is found to exist, adequate protection shall be provided to the petitioners strictly in accordance with law. The Station House Officer shall also summon respondent Nos. 4 to 6, as well as any other person found to be interfering with or threatening the petitioners, and counsel them to maintain peace and refrain from taking the law into their own hands. It is, however, clarified that this order shall not be construed as conferring any imprimatur upon the marriage or as adjudicating upon its validity, which shall be governed by the applicable law. 6. With the aforesaid directions, the present Criminal Writ Petition stands disposed of.
