The petitioners have approached this Court seeking the following relief: "i. Issue a writ, order or direction in the nature of mandamus commanding the respondent authorities to ensure adequate safety and security to the petitioners, as and when required, from any threat, harassment or harm at the hands of respondent No. 4 and other members/relatives of the family of petitioner No. 1, who are allegedly attempting to endanger the lives of the petitioners under the guise of so-called societal order." 3. Learned counsel for the petitioners submits that both the petitioners are majors and have solemnized their Nikah on 09.05.2025. It is further submitted that they have registered their marriage under the Uniform Civil Code, Uttarakhand on 31.07.2025 before the Registrar of Marriages, Roorkee. Learned counsel further submits that the petitioners apprehend a threat to their life and personal liberty at the hands of respondent No. 4 and other relatives of the family of petitioner No. 1. Accordingly, they seek appropriate directions for protection of their life and personal liberty. 4. Having heard learned counsel for the parties and upon consideration of the material UKHC010127492026 2026:UHC:6153 available on record, this Court, in the light of the law laid down by the Hon'ble Supreme Court in Lata Singh v. State of U.P. and Another, is of the prima facie opinion that the petitioners have made out a case for protection of their life and personal liberty guaranteed under Article 21 of the Constitution of India. 5. Accordingly, the Station House Officer, Police Station Manglore, District Haridwar, is directed to assess the threat perception, if any, to the life and personal liberty of the petitioners. In the event that any genuine threat is found to exist, adequate protection shall be provided to the petitioners strictly in accordance with law. The Station House Officer shall also summon respondent No. 4, as well as any other person found to be interfering with or threatening the petitioners, and counsel them to maintain peace and refrain from taking the law into their own hands. 6. With the aforesaid directions, the present Criminal Writ Petition stands disposed of.
