Mr. Gaurav Singh, learned counsel for the petitioners. Mr. Prabhat Kandpal, Mr. Akshay Latwal, learned A.G.A. along with Mr. Nikhil Bisht, learned Brief Holder for the State of Uttarakhand. 2. The petitioners have approached this Court seeking the following relief: "i. Issue a writ, order or direction in the nature of mandamus directing respondent nos. 1 and 2 to provide adequate protection to the petitioners from respondent no. 3, so that they may live a peaceful life." 3. Learned counsel for the petitioners submits that both the petitioners are majors and belong to different communities. It is submitted that they propose to solemnize their marriage under the provisions of the Special Marriage Act, 1954. He further submits that the petitioners are receiving threats from respondent no. 3, who is the father of petitioner no. 1. Accordingly, the petitioners seek appropriate directions for protection of their life and personal liberty. 4. Having heard learned counsel for the parties and upon consideration of the material available on record, this Court, in the light of the law laid down by the Hon'ble Supreme Court in Lata Singh v. State of U.P. and Another, is of the prima facie view that the petitioners have made out a case for protection of their life and personal liberty guaranteed under Article 21 of the Constitution of India. 5. Accordingly, the Station House Officer, Police Station Pathri, District Haridwar, is directed to assess the threat perception, if any, to the life and UKHC010119372026 2026:UHC:5609 personal liberty of the petitioners. In the event any genuine threat is found to exist, adequate protection shall be provided to the petitioners strictly in accordance with law. The Station House Officer shall also summon respondent no. 3, as well as any other person found to be interfering with or threatening the petitioners, and counsel them to maintain peace and refrain from taking the law into their own hands. 6.
