Mr. Vaibhav Singh Chauhan, learned counsel for the petitioners. Mr. Rakesh Kumar Joshi, learned A.G.A. for the State of Uttarakhand. 2. The petitioners have approached this Court seeking the following reliefs: "i. Issue a writ, order or direction in the nature of mandamus commanding respondent nos. 2 and 3 to provide adequate security to the life and personal liberty of the petitioners. ii. Issue a writ, order or direction in the nature of mandamus restraining respondent nos. 4 to 6 from interfering with the personal life and liberty of the petitioners." 3. It is submitted that both the petitioners are major. Petitioner No. 1 is about 22 years of age, whereas petitioner No. 2 is about 21 years of age. They solemnized their marriage on 03.06.2026 and thereafter got their marriage registered under Rule 7(1)(g) of the Uniform Civil Code Rules, Uttarakhand, 2025, on 09.06.2026. The Marriage Registration Certificate has been brought on record as Annexure No. 3 to the writ petition. 4. Learned counsel for the petitioners submits that the family members and relatives of petitioner No. 2 are opposed to the marriage solemnized between the petitioners and, therefore, the petitioners apprehend a threat to their life and personal liberty at the hands of the said relatives and other private persons. 5. Having considered the submissions advanced by learned counsel for the parties and in view of the law laid down by the Hon'ble Supreme Court in Lata Singh v. State of U.P. and Another, reported in UKHC010111352026 2026:UHC:5213 (2006) 5 SCC 475, this Court is of the opinion that the petitioners have made out a prima facie case for protection of their life and personal liberty guaranteed under Article 21 of the Constitution of India. 6. The Station House Officer, Police Station Kankhal, District Haridwar, is directed to assess the threat perception, if any, to the life and personal liberty of the petitioners. In the event any genuine threat is found to exist, adequate protection shall be provided to the petitioners strictly in accordance with law. The Station House Officer shall also summon respondent nos. 4 to 6, as well as any other person found to be interfering with or threatening the petitioners, and counsel them to maintain peace and refrain from taking the law into their own hands. 7. Accordingly, the present Criminal Writ Petition stands disposed of accordingly.
