Roy, learned Central Government Counsel for respondent No. 1, Mr. B. J. Talukdar, learned Senior Counsel for respondent Nos. 2 & 5, and Mr. J. Roy, learned Senior Counsel assisted by Mr. B. P. Sarmah, learned counsel for respondent Nos. 3 & 4. By filing this writ petition, the petitioner has sought for a direction to the respondent authorities for payment of compensation in respect of acquisition of the right of user over the land of the petitioner measuring 1 Bigha 1 Katha, covered by Dag No. 296, P.P. No. 1, and land measuring 2 Bigha 10 Lecha, covered by Dag No. 375, P.P. No. 1, situated in Panikhaiti village under Beltola Mouza in the District of Kamrup(M), Assam, for the purpose of laying down a Page No.# 3/4 gas pipeline by Indradhanush Gas Grid Limited (IGGL). It is stated at the Bar that during the pendency of this writ petition, a speaking order dated 18.03.2026 has been passed by the competent authority of IGGL, pursuant to which a joint verification process, involving the petitioner and the co-pattadars, has been initiated for acquisition of the right of user and determination/payment of compensation in terms of the provisions of the Petroleum and Minerals Pipelines (Acquisition of Right of User in Land) Act, 1962, which is yet to be completed. In view of the aforesaid development, Mr. J. Sarmah, learned counsel for the petitioner, fairly submits that the petitioner does not wish to press the present writ petition. However, he prays that the respondent authorities be directed to complete the verification process within a reasonable period of time. Having considered the submissions made by the learned counsel for the parties and taking note of the fact that the respondent authorities have already initiated the process of joint verification for acquisition of the right of user and determination/payment of compensation payable to the petitioner and the other co-pattadars, this Court is of the view that no further adjudication is required to be made in the present proceedings. Accordingly, writ petition stands closed. It is needless to observe that the respondent authorities shall carry out the process of verification for payment of compensation that may be entitled to the land owners including the petitioner and the other co-pattadars for the aforesaid land as expeditiously as possible. The petitioner and the other co- Page No.# 4/4 pattadars shall extend necessary cooperation in the said process. Liberty is reserved to the petitioner to approach this Court again, if so advised, in the event any subsequent cause of action arises, in accordance with law. JUDGE Comparing Assistant
