For Petitioner: Mr.V.Vijayakumar For Respondent: Mr.Sowmi Dattar Standing Counsel https://www.mhc.tn.gov.in/judis WP No. 7305 of 2026 __________ Page2 of 5 ORDER The above writ petition has been filed for the following relief : “ To issue a Writ of Mandamus to direct the respondent to consider the petitioner’s representation dated 05.02.2026 for review the petitioner’s running test with the video recorded at the time of selection test within a stipulated period of time by holding a lawful inquiry with personal hearing opportunity to the petitioner.” 2. The case of the petitioner is that pursuant to the notification issued by the respondent for recruitment for the post of Grade-II Police Constables, Prison Constables and Fireman, the petitioner has applied for the same and had qualified the written test. The petitioner was called for Physical Efficiency Test on 01.02.2026. According to the petitioner, in the test for100 mtrs. running race, she had completed it in 15.50 seconds. However, the respondent had rejected her candidature as she had not completed the race within the stipulated time. Hence, the petitioner is before the Court with her representation dated 05.02.2026 seeking to review the running race test that was videographed by the respondents. 3. The petitioner would contend that the selection process was unfair and her rejection was with an oblique motive. https://www.mhc.tn.gov.in/judis WP No. 7305 of 2026 __________ Page3 of 5 4. Heard the learned counsel on either side and also perused the materials placed before this Court. 5. The learned Standing Counsel appearing for the respondent denied the contentions of the petitioner. Paragraph Nos.8 and 9 of the counter affidavit, would read as follows : "8. It is submitted that the petitioner participated in the 100 meters running event in batch no.15 along with 7 other women candidates. The timing of the running event of each of the candidate was calculated using stop watch by qualified sports officials. The timing entered in the Lap sheet and PET coding sheet are final. As per the PET Coding sheet and the lap sheet, she had completed the said event in 16.09 seconds, within 17.50 seconds for one star. For obtaining 2 star, she should have completed the event within 15.50 seconds. Accordingly, the petitioner was awarded 1 star i.e., 4 marks and successfully completed the physical tests. On perusal of the video recordings it is seen that the petitioner herself had acknowledged the running time as 16.09 seconds. Further it is pertinent to mention that the petitioner has accepted the timing of the running event and affixed her signature in the PET coding sheet itself. Hence, the statement of the petitioner that she had been rejected for not having completed the race within the stipulated time is incorrect. 9. It is informed that the petitioner having completed the physical test is provisionally in the zone of consideration for the selection list. Hence, her statement that she was not selected with oblique motives is denied and not maintainable." 6. Recording the statement of the respondent that the petitioner is provisionally in the zone of consideration of the selection list, the writ petition is disposed of.
