Alauddin, learned counsel for the petitioners. 2. Mr. J.P. Kandpal, learned A.G.A. for the State of Uttarakhand. 3. The petitioners have approached this Court seeking protection of their life and personal liberty on the ground that they are facing threats at the hands of the respondent nos. 4 to 7, who are the father, brother and brother-in-law of petitioner no. 2. It is stated that the petitioners have been in a relationship for a considerable period and have solemnized their marriage on 02.06.2026. In support of their submission, a Nikahnama dated 02.06.2026 has been placed on record. According to the petitioners, the parents and relatives of petitioner no. 2 are opposed to their relationship and are allegedly extending threats to them. 4. Both the petitioners are present before this Court today. On interaction, they submit that they have voluntarily solemnized their marriage and are residing together peacefully as husband and wife. 5. Having regard to the submissions advanced and considering that both the petitioners are major and have solemnized their marriage of their own free will, they are entitled to protection of their life and liberty in accordance with law. 6. We, accordingly, dispose of the writ petition with a direction to the S.H.O, Police Station Kotwali Laksar, District Haridwar to provide adequate protection to the petitioners and ensure that no harm is caused to them by respondent nos. 4 to 7. Upon the expiry of four weeks, the concerned Station House Officer shall make a fresh assessment of the threat perception to the petitioners and take such further measures as may be deemed necessary for their safety and security.
