Umar, learned counsel, holding brief of Mr. Bilal Ahmad, learned counsel for the petitioners. 2. Mr. Dinesh Chauhan, learned A.G.A. for the State. 3. Petitioners have approached this Court seeking the following reliefs: “a) Issue a writ, order or direction in the nature of mandamus directing and commanding the respondent nos. 1 and 2 to provide adequate police protection to the petitioners from the respondent nos. 3 to 6, who wants to do away with the life of petitioners in the name of family honor.” 4. It is submitted by learned counsel for the petitioners that petitioner no. 1 is a divorcee and petitioner no. 2 is unmarried. It is further submitted that petitioner no. 1 was earlier married to the brother of petitioner no. 2 and now they have been divorced by triple talak. It is submitted that both the petitioners belong to the same faith, and that the petitioners developed a liking for each other, which has ended in love, and now both the petitioners intend to marry each other. Since the family members of both the petitioners are against this marriage, they are giving out threats to kill both the petitioners. Petitioners submit that they are facing stiff resistance, and they seriously apprehend threat to their life and limb from their family members, and hence they are before this Court praying for protection. 5. The documents on record reveal that both the petitioners are majors, and it is also submitted by the counsel for the petitioners that the parties have decided to marry each other as per Muslim Rites and Rituals. 6. In that view of the matter, and in view of the ruling of the Hon'ble Supreme Court in the case of Lata Singh Vs State of U.P. and another, (2006) 5 SCC 475, the petitioners have made out a case for grant of protection. 7. The Station House Officer, Police Station Kotwali Gangnahar, District Haridwar is directed to assess the threat, if any, to the life and limb of the petitioners, and provide necessary protection, if it is found that there is a threat to the life and limb of the petitioners. The S.H.O. concerned is further directed to summon the private respondents, and such other persons, who are inimically placed towards the marriage of the petitioners, and counsel them, in accordance with law. 8.
