This contempt case is filed against the respondents for willful disobedience of orders dated 08.02.2024 passed by this Court in W.P.No.2328/2024.
2. Sri M.Sri Atchuyut, learned counsel for the petitioner submitted that, pursuant to the filing of this contempt case, the original compensation amount covered under the award was paid to the petitioner but the interest for delayed payment was not paid by the authorities.
3. This court passed orders dated 08.02.2024 in W.P.No.2328/202 which reads as follows:
“Accordingly, the writ petition is disposed of, directing the authorities to pay the compensation amount covered under the award to the petitioners, as expeditiously as possible at any rate not later than three (03) months from the date of receipt of copy of this order.”
4. There is no direction given by this court to pay the interest amount to the petitioner. In the said circumstances, this court cannot go into the aspect of the interest amount. However, the authorities have complied with the direction of this court by paying the compensation amount covered under the award to the petitioner. As such there remains nothing for adjudication in this contempt case and is liable to be closed.
Accordingly, the contempt case is closed. However, the petitioner is at liberty to avail alternative remedy available for claiming interest towards delayed payment, in accordance with law. No costs.
Miscellaneous applications, pending if any, shall stand closed.
