For Intervener : Mr.N.Gurusamy ORDER Heard the learned counsel for the petitioner, the learned Additional Government Pleader for the respondents 1 to 6 and Mr.N.Gurusamy, learned counsel appearing for the intervener. 2.The writ petitioner is a resident of Karungalakudi Village. He 2/6 https://www.mhc.tn.gov.in/judis W.P(MD)No.22186 of 2026 wants the petition mentioned feeder channel and the water bodies to be preserved and protected. According to him, the water bodies are facing the threat of destruction on account of certain mining activities. 3.When the matter was taken up for hearing, the learned counsel for the intervener submitted that an application has been submitted seeking permission to quarry in S.Nos.96/3, 96/7, 96/8, 97/2 and 97/3. According to him, the permission is yet to be granted. 4.We looked at the “A” register entries. It is seen therefrom that S.Nos.92/1, 93/1 and 97/1 have been classified as water bodies (Oorani and Kulam). According to the learned Government Advocate, there is no material to show that there are feeder channels. The learned counsel for the petitioner on the other hand asserts that there are feeder channels and they are being obliterated. 5.We direct the District Collector, Sivagangai to apply his mind before granting license. It shall be ensured that the water bodies are maintained intact. If there are feeder channels, they shall also be taken care and protected. 6.This writ petition is disposed of accordingly. No costs.
