1. T.Udhayachandran The Government of Tamil Nadu, Principal Secretary, Finance (Pay Cell) Department, Fort St.George, Secretariat, Chennai – 9.
2. Kannappan, The Directorate of School Education Department, Director, School Education Department, DPI Campus, Chennai - 6. ..Respondents PRAYER: To punish the respondents herein for Contempt of Court for wilful disobedience of the orders of this Court passed in W.P.No. 17273 of 2020 dated 20.10.2023 For Petitioner : Mr.S.Karthikeyan For Respondents : Mr. Y.Kavitha, For R2. https://www.mhc.tn.gov.in/judis
__________ Page2 of 4 ORDER When the Contempt Petition is taken up for hearing, it was brought to the notice of this Court by the learned Government Advocate appearing for the second respondent that the respondents/State had preferred a Writ Appeal against the order passed in the Writ Petition vide W.A.No.886 of 2026. It was further submitted that the Hon'ble Division Bench of this Court had directed the said Writ Appeal to be tagged along with W.A.No.1843 of 2026.
2. The learned Government Advocate further submitted that the Hon'ble Division Bench, while entertaining W.A.No.1843 of 2026, was pleased to grant an order of interim stay, which continues to remain in force.
3. This Court has carefully considered the submissions made by the learned Government Advocate. Since the order, the alleged disobedience of which forms the subject matter of the present Contempt Petition, is itself under challenge in W.A.No.886 of 2026 and the said appeal having been tagged along with W.A.No.1843 of 2026, wherein an order of interim stay is in operation, this Court is of the considered view that no useful purpose would be served by keeping the present Contempt Petition pending on the file of this Court till the disposal of the Writ Appeals. https://www.mhc.tn.gov.in/judis

4. Accordingly, the Contempt Petition stands closed. However, liberty is granted to the petitioner to seek revival of the Contempt Petition after the disposal of the Writ Appeals, if the cause for initiating contempt proceedings still survives. 24.07.2026 Index: Yes/No Speaking/Non-speaking order Neutral Citation: Yes/No kmm https://www.mhc.tn.gov.in/judis
