ORDER A demand notice dated 12.06.2025 and the distraint order dated 23.01.2026 are challenged inter alia on the ground that the petitioner does not have any water connection.

Adverting to the particulars relating to demands made in respect of water tax, learned counsel submits that water tax was originally fixed at Rs.5608/- per half year and thereafter reduced to Rs.3858/- on representation from the petitioner. He also submits that it was arbitrarily increased to Rs.5674/- from the first half of 2022-2023.
3. Ms.V.Vijayalakshmi, learned standing counsel, accepts notice for the respondent. She submits that the demand is in relation to arrears over a considerable period. https://www.mhc.tn.gov.in/judis

4. In response to a question as to when the petitioner last made payment,
learned counsel refers to the receipt in relation to demand made in the first and second half of 2018. Therefore, the petitioner has approached this Court seeking equitable relief without discharging liabilities for a considerable period of time. Consequently, I am not inclined to entertain this writ petition.
5. Therefore, this writ petition is dismissed by leaving it open to the petitioner to avail of statutory remedies. Consequently, connected writ miscellaneous petitions are closed.
