Tambaram. ..Respondents Prayer: This writ petition is filed under Article 226 of the Constitution of India, praying to issue a Writ of Mandamus directing the respondents 1 to 4 to consider petitioner's representation dated 27.04.2026 and consequently directing the respondents 1 to 4 to grant permission to conduct temple function from 24.07.2026 to 26.07.2026 at Sri Konnaiyathamman Temple, Kundrathur. For Petitioner : Mr.T.I.Ramanathan for Mr.S.Vellidoss For Respondents : Mr.D.Yashwanth Rajan, Government's Counsel (HR & CE) for R-1 to R-5 Mr.Durai Gunasekaran Government Advocate (Criminal Side) for R-6 and R-7 ORDER This writ petition has been filed to direct the respondents 1 to 4 to grant permission to conduct temple festival of Sri Konnaiyathamman Temple, Kundrathur from 24.07.2026 to 26.07.2026 by considering the petitioner's representation dated 27.04.2026. 2. The learned counsel appearing for the petitioner submitted that the petitioner, who is the Treasurer and also a Trustee of Sri Konnaiyathamman https://www.mhc.tn.gov.in/judis WP No. 28766 of 2026 __________ Page3 of 6 Temple Trust, made a representation on 27.04.2026 to the respondents 1 to 4 seeking permission to conduct temple festival of Sri Konnaiyathamman Temple, Kundrathur, from 24.07.2026 to 26.07.2026. Since the said representation has not been considered by the respondents so far, this Writ Petition has been filed. 3. The learned Government's Counsel appearing for the respondents 1 to 5 submitted that the petitioner, in his individual capacity, has made a representation to the respondents seeking permission to conduct temple festival of Sri Konnaiyathamman Temple, Kundrathur, from 24.07.2026 to 26.07.2026. Since there is a scheme and as per the scheme, the Committee of the temple alone can conduct the temple festival and not the petitioner in his individual capacity. He further submitted that if the Committee of the temple makes a representation, the same will be considered by the respondent and orders will be passed. 4. In reply, the learned counsel for the petitioner submitted that the representation dated 27.04.2026 made by the petitioner was only as a representative capacity of the Committee of the temple and not in his individual capacity and as the temple festival is scheduled to be conducted from 24.07.2026 to 26.07.2026, he prays that the respondents may be directed to grant necessary permission forthwith. https://www.mhc.tn.gov.in/judis WP No. 28766 of 2026 __________ Page4 of 6 5. Heard the learned counsel appearing on either side and also perused the materials available on record. 6. Considering the submission of the learned counsel for the petitioner that the representation dated 27.04.2026 made by the petitioner was only as a representative capacity of the Committee of the temple and not in his individual capacity and also considering the fact that the temple festival of Sri Konnaiyathamman Temple, Kundrathur, is scheduled to be conducted from 24.07.2026 to 26.07.2026, this Court directs the respondents 1 to 4 to grant permission forthwith to conduct the temple festival by the Committee of the Temple not by the petitioner in his individual capacity. In the event if police protection is necessary, the respondents 5 and 6 are directed to provide police protection to conduct the temple festival of Sri Konnaiyathamman Temple, Kundrathur, from 24.07.2026 to 26.07.2026. 7. With the above direction, this Writ Petition is disposed of.
