1. Mr. Vikas Bahuguna, learned counsel for the petitioner.
2. Mrs. Meenakshi Sharma, learned A.G.A. for the State.
3. Mr. Yash Bisht, learned counsel for the complainant.
4. The petitioner Dan Singh S/o Chaman Singh praying for quashing of first information report dated 10.05.2026 bearing FIR No. 0140 of 2026, P.S. Khatima District Udham Singh Nagar wherein the petitioner has been implicated for the offence punishable under Sections 196(2), read with Section 352 of Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, 2023.
5. The writ petition is supported with the compounding application and the affidavit of the petitioner and respondent no.3. The petitioner and the respondent no.3/complainant are present in Court and identified by their respective counsels.
6. It is contended in the compounding application that the parties have settled their disputes, and due to some misunderstanding the FIR has been lodged.
7. This Court also interacted with the complainant who submits that he does not want to pursue with impugned FIR and therefore, the FIR be quashed since they have amicably settled their disputes and their relations are very cordial and nobody is compelling to change their religion.
8. On the other side, Mrs. Meenakshi Sharma, the learned A.G.A. submits that though the offence punishable under Section 302 of BNS 2023 is compoundable, however
2026:UHC:3830 the offence punishable under Section 196(2) may be compounded with the leave of the court .

After hearing the arguments of learned counsel for the parties and taking into consideration the averments as made in the compounding application and the fact that both the parties have settled their disputes and their relations are cordial, this Court is of the view that the writ petition as well as the compounding application deserves to be allowed.
10. Accordingly, the writ petition as well as the compounding application are allowed and the impugned FIR dated 10.05.2026 bearing FIR No. 0140 of 2026, P.S. Khatima District Udham Singh Nagar is hereby quashed.
