Petitioners have filed this writ petition seeking following reliefs:- “10.1 That, this Hon’ble Court may kindly be pleased to direct the Respondent Dean, Late Lakhiram Agrawal Memorial Medical College, Raigarh to allow the peti- tioners to perform their duties as Lab Technician at Late Lakhiram Agrawal Memorial Medical College Raigarh. 10.2 The Hon’ble Court may kindly be pleased to direct the respondent State to consider the candidature of the petitioner for regularization on the post of Lab Tech- nician in the Department of Health State of Chhattisgarh. 10.3 The Hon’ble Court may kindly be pleased to direct the respondent State to grant any other relief which this Hon’ble Court deems fit and proper in favour of the petitioner as per the facts and circum- stances of the present case, in the ends of justice.” 3 2. Learned counsel for petitioners submits that the petitioners were engaged as Lab Technicians in Late Lakhiram Agrawal Memorial Government College, Raigarh on contract basis from 09.05.2020. She contended that initially the appointment of the petitioners were for 01 year and it was extended from time to time and petitioners thereafter had worked till June, 2025 and subsequently, their contract was terminated and petitioners were not permitted to work. It is the contention of the counsel for the petitioners that the work for the petitioners are still available which is evident from the letter dated 06.06.2025 (Annexuer P/4) written by the Dean, Lakhiram Agrawal Memorial Government College, Raigarh to the Director, Medical Education seeking extension of the services of petitioner on contract basis which till date, is pending consideration. Petitioners services came to an end only because, further extension was not afforded by the Respondent No. 4 i.e. the Director, Medical Education and therefore, direction be issued to the Respondent No. 3 to take decision on the letter of the Dean dated 06.06.2025 at the earliest within specified time. 3. Learned counsel for Respondents/State submits that the petitioners were engaged as a contract employee on emergent basis during the COVID – 19 period and as of now, no other employee is working/engaged as Technician or Data Entry Operator or Lap Attendant on contract basis. He submits that all the employees who are working in the Lakhiram Agrawal Memorial Government College, Raigarh are permanent employees. 4. I have heard learned counsel for the parties and perused the documents placed on record along with the writ petition. 4 5. Be that as it may, according to the order of appointment of the petitioners as is reflecting in the appointment order as also, the submission made by the counsel for the Respondents/State, it is apparent that the petitioners have been engaged during the crucial period of the outburst of COVID – 19 pandemic. Petitioners under the threat of life have discharged their duties of Lab Technicians and Lab Attendant. From the letter dated 06.06.2025 issued by the Dean, Lakhiram Agrawal Memorial Government College, Raigarh it appears that the work for Lab Technicians, Lab Attendant and Data Entry Operators are still existing and therefore, I find it appropriate to dispose of these writ petitions at this stage, directing Respondent No. 3 to take decision on the letter written by the Dean, Lakhiram Agrawal Memorial Government College, Raigarh with regard to extension of the period of services of contract employees as mentioned in the letter dated 06.06.2025 in accordance with law, keeping in mind the services rendered by the petitioners during the difficult time, at the earliest preferably within a further period of 08 weeks from the date of receipt of the order. 6.
