Under assail is the writ order dated 15.02.2024 passed in W.P.No.21415 of 2022. 2. The issue raised in the present intra-Court appeal filed by the writ petitioner is that whether B.E. degree in Aeronautical Engineering and M.E.Degree in Thermal Engineering can be held equivalent to Mechanical Engineering. 3. The learned Senior Counsel for the appellant would contend that the subjects of Thermal Engineering and Aeronautical Engineering are coming under the Department of Mechanical Engineering. Therefore, it is to be treated as equivalent for recruitment to the post of Lecturer in Government Polytechnic Colleges and Special Institutions (Engineering/Non-Engineering) Tamil Nadu Educational Service. 4. Pursuant to the recruitment notification dated 27.11.2019, the appellant submitted an application for selection to the post of Lecturer in https://www.mhc.tn.gov.in/judis 2026:MHC:2807 WA No. 1825 of 2026 __________ Page3 of 5 Government Polytechnic College. Her candidature was rejected mainly on the ground that B.E.degree acquired by her is not equivalent to Mechanical Engineering Degree and therefore, she is not eligible. 5. Learned senior counsel would contend that the subject of Aeronautical Engineering is also falling under the Department of Mechanical Engineering and therefore, it is to be treated as equivalent. Grant of equivalence between the degrees are to be awarded by the Government for public employments in pursuance to the recommendations made by the Equivalent Committee constituted under the rules. The Equivalent Committee is an expert body who has to consider the grant of equivalence between various degrees or degrees awarded by the University across the country. In the present case, no such equivalence has been granted by the Government by issuing an order. In the absence of any grant of equivalence by the Government, Court in exercise of powers of judicial review cannot arrive at a conclusion that the B.E.degree in Aeronautical Engineering should be treated as equivalent to B.E. Mechanical Engineering. The Government, in turn, in G.O.No.270, Higher Education department dated 03.12.2019 held that B.E. Aeronautical Engineering is not equivalent to Mechanical Engineering. 6. That apart, the appellant is qualified with post graduate degree in Thermal Engineering. Her graduate degree is not equivalent to Mechanical Engineering. Therefore, she is not eligible for weightage marks for the Post https://www.mhc.tn.gov.in/judis 2026:MHC:2807 WA No. 1825 of 2026 __________ Page4 of 5 Graduate Degree, namely M.E. in Thermal Engineering. 7. Pertinently, the cut off mark for BCM(W) is 69.43575. However, the appellant scored only 67.06788. Thus, she is not coming under Zone of consideration for selection. Citing all the above reasons, the writ court rejected the writ petition. Therefore, this Court does not find any reason to entertain the writ appeal. Consequently, the Writ Appeal stands dismissed. No costs. The connected miscellaneous petition is closed. (S.M.S.,J.) (N.S.,J.) 14-07-2026 Index: Yes/No Speaking/Non-speaking order Neutral Citation: Yes/No VSI To 1.
