The main contention of the learned counsel for the petitioner is that clear CCTV footage is available demonstrating that the petitioner was picked up from his residence and illegally detained at the police station two days prior to the registration of the First Information Report (FIR). He further submitted that after two days of unlawful custody, a false case was foisted against the petitioner, who is a law student at MGR University. 3. The learned counsel for Government of Tamil Nadu (Criminal Side) appearing for the respondents/Police submitted that the allegations levelled against the police are completely false. Considering the facts and circumstances of the case, and noting that the FIR has been registered for the alleged recovery of psychotropic substances, this Court is of the view that the investigation must proceed. However, to ensure fairness, the following order is passed: a) The second respondent shall proceed with the investigation in accordance with law. b) The concerned Deputy Commissioner of Police shall closely monitor the progress of the investigation. c) The Deputy Commissioner of Police shall specifically examine and verify the contentions raised by the petitioner regarding the available CCTV/video footage capturing the alleged prior detention. 5.
