In Crl.O.P.No.17116 of 2026, the petitioner appeared before this Court in person. The de facto complainant is residing abroad and therefore, appeared through a WhatsApp Video call. Though no Joint Memo of Compromise has been filed in the said petition, both parties have unequivocally expressed their intention to settle the dispute and have jointly sought for quashing of the FIR in Crime No.872 of 2020. 2. In Crl.O.P.No.17168 of 2026, the parties are present before this Court and have filed a Joint Memo of Compromise along with supporting affidavits, seeking quashing of the proceedings on the basis of the settlement arrived at between them. 3. It is seen that the occurrence arose out of a road-rage incident, in the course of which both sides allegedly assaulted each other, resulting in the https://www.mhc.tn.gov.in/judis CRL.OP.Nos. 17116 & 17168 of 2026 registration of cross cases against each other. Crime No. 872 of 2020 was registered for the offences under Section 147, 294 (b), 352 and 506(ii) of IPC and Crime No.871 of 2020 was registered for the offences under Section 147, 294 (b), 324 and 506(ii) of IPC. Since the parties have amicably settled the dispute and have jointly sought quashing to the Criminal proceedings, this Court heard the learned counsel appearing on either side and perused the materials available on record. 4. Upon perusal of the averments made in the petitions and considering the nature of the dispute as well as the subsequent settlement arrived at between the parties, this Court is of the view that this is a fit case for the exercise of its inherent jurisdiction under Section 482 of the Code of Criminal Procedure, within the four corners of the law laid down by the Hon’ble Supreme Court in Gian Singh -Vs State of Punjab & another, reported in 2012 (10) SCC 303. 5. Accordingly, these Criminal Original Petition Nos.17116 & 17168 of 2026 are allowed and the FIRs in Crime Nos. 871 & 872 of 2020 on the file of the first respondent are hereby quashed.
