In Re : Sujit Ghatak and another
... Petitioners.
Mr. Saibal Krishna Dasgupta
... For the Petitioners.
Mr. Satadru Lahiri, Mr. Radhey Shyam Tiwari
... For the State.
Learned advocate appearing for the petitioners prays for bail of the petitioners in view of the long period of detention. Petitioners are in custody for more than 3 years 1 month. The trial of the case is in progress. Learned advocate appearing for the State, on the other hand, opposes the prayer for bail and submits a status report which reflects that only the evidence of investigating officer is left. Having considered the advanced stage of the case, I am not inclined to release the petitioners on bail. As such, the prayer for bail of the petitioners is rejected. Learned Trial Court is directed to ensure that the evidence of last witness is completed within a period of three months from the date of communication of this order.
2 Status report submitted by the learned advocate appearing for the State be kept with the record. The application for bail, being CRM (M) 1778 of 2026, is, thus, disposed of. All concerned parties shall act on the server copy of this order duly downloaded from the official website of this Court. Urgent photostat certified copy of this order, if applied for, be supplied to the parties upon compliance with all requisite formalities.
