IN THE HIGH COURT AT CALCUTTA CIRCUIT BENCH AT JALPAIGURI CONSTITUTIONAL WRIT JURISDICTION 01.10.2026 rc/ct.no.CB-06 Item No.189 WPA No. 2337 of 2026 Jahedul Islam Versus The Election Commission of India & Ors. Adv. Debarshi Dhar …for the petitioner Adv. Anamika Pandey Adv. Madhushri Dutta … for the Election Commission of India Heard learned counsels for the parties. Learned counsel for the petitioner submits that the petitioner having EPIC no. HJK 2251593 has preferred an appeal against deletion of name in the Special Intensive Revision process before the designated Appellate Tribunal. The petitioner seeks expeditious disposal of the appeal. Learned counsel for the Election Commission of India submits that a huge number of appeals are pending before the learned Appellate Tribunal which are being disposed of on a day to day basis. Upon consideration of the submission made on behalf of the parties and also in view of the fact that the appeal is pending for a considerable period of time, learned Appellate Tribunal is requested to consider and dispose of the appeal as expeditiously as possible, in accordance with law. 2 It is made clear that this Court has not gone into the merits of the claim of the petitioner made in the appeal and all issues are left open to be decided by the learned Appellate Tribunal in accordance with law. The writ petition is disposed of. There shall be no order as to costs. Since no affidavit has been invited, allegations contained in the writ petition shall be deemed not to have been admitted. Urgent certified website copy of the order, if applied for, be given to the parties on compliance of requisite formalities. (Suvra Ghosh,J)
