Murugappan For R2 & R3 : Mr.T.S.Mohammed Mohideen For R1 : Ms.K.R.Shivashankari, Counsel for State O R D E R This Writ Petition has been filed seeking the issuance of a Writ of Mandamus directing respondents 2 and 3 to remove the lock and seal affixed to the petitioner's Shops Nos.336, 357 and 376 situated at the Mattuthavani Integrated Vegetable Market, Madurai. 2. By consent of both parties, the Writ Petition is taken up for final disposal at the admission stage itself. 3. Heard the learned counsel for the parties and perused the materials available on record. 2/6 https://www.mhc.tn.gov.in/judis W.P(MD)No.18590 of 2026 4.The learned counsel for the petitioner submits that the petitioner was allotted three petition-mentioned shops in the Mattuthavani Integrated Vegetable Market, Madurai. The grievance of the petitioner is that, without issuing any notice or affording an opportunity of hearing, the respondent Corporation enhanced the monthly rent payable in respect of the said shops. It is further submitted that, on account of the alleged arrears of rent, the respondents locked and sealed the petitioner's shops. Aggrieved thereby, the petitioner has filed the present writ petition. 5. Though very many grounds have been raised, the learned counsel for the petitioner further submitted that, it would suffice, if this Court issues direction to the respondent to permit the petitioner to remit the determined amount of Rs.3,47,013/- in respect of each shop in 7 equated monthly installments. 6. In view of the limited request made by the learned counsel for the petitioner, this Court without going into the merits of the case, permits the 3/6 https://www.mhc.tn.gov.in/judis W.P(MD)No.18590 of 2026 petitioner to remit Rs.1,41,039/- (Rs.47,013/- x 3 shops) towards the first installment within a period of one week from the date of receipt of a copy of this order. The balance demand amount of Rs.9,00,000/- shall be paid by way of Six (6) equated monthly installments, commencing from 7th August, 2026 and shall pay the installments on or before 7th of every succeeding English Calendar month. In the event of default in payment of any installment, it is open to the respondents to initiate appropriate action against the petitioner in accordance with law. 7. With the above directions, this Writ Petition stands disposed of. No costs.
