Mr. Shariq Khurshid, learned counsel for the petitioners. 2. Mr. G.S. Sandhu, learned Addl. Advocate General with Ms. Sweta Dobhal, learned Brief Holder for the State. 3. By the instant petition, petitioner no. 1 – Kaushar Jahan, D/o Meer Mohammad and petitioner no. 2 – Noor Mohammad, S/o Shamsher Ali, are praying for adequate protection, since there is threat perception from respondent nos. 3 to 8, family members and relatives of petitioner no. 1, since all of them are against their marriage. 4. Both the petitioners are present in person and they are duly identified by their counsel. 5. It is argued by learned counsel for the petitioners that both the petitioners are major and are from same religion and both were in love and married on 20.04.2026 and copy of the Nikhanama is enclosed as Annexure No. 1 to the writ petition. In support of their age, petitioners have enclosed copy of their PAN cards and Adhar Cards. 6. It is contended that since there is threat perception from respondents no. 3 to 8, therefore, petitioners have moved a representation to the SSP, Udham Singh Nagar, on 21.04.2026 but no action has been taken thereon. 7. Learned State Counsel has not disputed about the age and marriage of the petitioners, however, he submits that their marriage is not registered. 8. Since both of the petitioners are major and married with each other and if there is threat perception from respondent nos. 3 to 8, then, in such an eventuality, the State administration is under legal obligation to assess such threat and take appropriate steps to secure their life and liberty. 9. In such view of the matter, the instant writ petition is disposed of finally with the direction to the SSP, Udham Singh Nagar – respondent no. 1 to make an assessment of the threat perception and if he comes to the conclusion that there is any threat from respondent nos. 3 to 8, take appropriate steps. Simultaneously, SHO, Police Station – Jaspur, District 2026:UHC:3123 – U.S. Nagar, is also directed to call upon respondent nos. 3 to 8 and advise them not to take law in his hand.
