Affidavit of service filed in Court today is taken on record. 2. The petitioner’s application seeking change in his surname mentioned in the certificate of Madhyamik Pariksha (Secondary Exaination), 2018 dated 6th June, 2018 issued by the West Bengal Board of Secondary Education is pending consideration. 3. The petitioner has produced the birth certificate issued by the Jangipara Gram Panchayat on 19th February, 2025 in the name of ‘Riku Das’, the caste/tribe certificate issued on 19th September, 2025, the paper publication dated 12th July, 2024, the gazette notification of the Kolkata Gazette (Extraordinary) on 8th April, 2025 in support of the submission that the petitioner is known by the name of ‘Riku Das’. 4. The petitioner has also annexed his PAN card, EPIC & Aadhaar card in the name of ‘Riku Das’. The application made by the petitioner before the West Bengal Board of Secondary Education Page 2 and the receipt showing submission of the necessary fees on 21st May, 2025 is also annexed with the writ petition. 5. Prayer has been made to direct the Board to change the surname in the educational documents of the petitioner. 6. Learned advocate representing the Board submits that the change in the surname will be prospective in nature. 7. The Board is directed to make the necessary changes in the surname of the petitioner. The change will certainly be prospective on and from the date the change being made. 8. Steps shall be taken in the matter at the earliest but positively within a period of four weeks from the date of communication of this order. 9. It will be open for the Board to rely upon the birth certificate and other contemporaneous public documents relied upon by the petitioner prior to making changes in the surname of the petitioner in his educational records. 10. The name of the petitioner’s father shall also be changed. If any additional charges are required for changing the surname of the petitioner’s father, then the same shall be intimated to the petitioner. The change will be effective from the date of publication of the gazette notification. 11. The writ petition stands disposed of. 12. Parties to act on the basis of the server copy of this order duly downloaded from the official website of this Court. 13.
