Mr. Amanjot Singh Chadha, learned counsel for the Petitioners. 2. Mr. Vipul Painuly, learned A.G.A. for the State of Uttarakhand. 3. Heard learned counsel for the parties. 4. Learned counsel for the Petitioners submits that both the Petitioners belong to the same community and, since the family members and other relatives of the first Petitioner are opposed to their marriage, they have been issuing threats to kill both the Petitioners. It is further submitted that the Petitioners are facing stiff resistance and seriously apprehend a threat to their life and limb from the family members and other relatives of the first Petitioner. Hence, they have approached this Court seeking protection. 5. The documents on record reveal that both the Petitioners are majors. It is also submitted by the learned A.G.A. for the State that the parties have performed their marriage on 17.06.2025, which is evident from the Marriage Certificate dated 10.09.2025. 6. In view of the aforesaid and in light of the ruling of the Hon’ble Supreme Court in Lata Singh vs. State of U.P. and Another, the Petitioners have made out a case for grant of protection. 7. The S.S.P., District Nainital, is directed to assess the threat, if any, to the life and limb of the Petitioners, and to provide necessary protection if it is found that such threat exists. The S.S.P., District Nainital is further directed to summon the private Respondent and such other persons who are inimically placed towards the marriage of the Petitioners and counsel them, strictly in accordance with law. 8. The present Criminal Writ Petition stands disposed of accordingly. 9. As a sequel thereto, the miscellaneous petitions, if any, pending shall also stand closed. ( Ash ish Nait h an i, J.)
