Being aggrieved by the failure on the part of the respondent no.4 to take appropriate steps for the application in relation to grant of citizenship in accordance with Section 5(1)(C) of the Indian Citizenship Act, 1955 (hereinafter referred to as the “said Act”) the instant writ petition has been filed. 2. When the matter was moved on 2nd September, 2026, this Court had directed the respondent nos. 4 and 6 to file a report when the matter is taken up next. 3. Today, Mr. Bhattacharjee, learned advocate representing the State would submit that though the report has not been prepared he has received an instruction. As per the instruction available, due to 2 WPA 1926 of 2026 technical glitches at their end, the petitioner’s application could not be processed. 4. Having heard the learned advocates appearing for the respective parties and upon ascertaining from Mr. Bhattacharjee, on the basis of the instruction as made available, a copy whereof is retained on the file, that the application is pending since 2022, is yet to be processed, I am of the view that the concerned respondents should immediately take steps and process of the petitioner’s application on an expeditious basis, possibly within twelve weeks from the date of communication of this order. The outcome of such proceedings must be communicated to the petitioner by passing a reasoned order. 5. With the above observations and directions, the writ petition is disposed of. 6. All parties are act on the basis of the server copy of this order duly downloaded from the official website of this Court.
