31.08.2026 Sl. No.858. D/L. Mithun. Ct.No.29. CRR/3505/2026 Angsuman Bhttacharjee @ Angshuman Bhattacherjee Vs. The State of West Bengal & Anr. Mr. Amit Ranjan Pati, Ms. Swastika Chowdhury, Ms. Ilika Nag, Mr. Avijit Chatterjee …for the petitioner In this application, the petitioner has prayed for a direction upon the Court below for expeditious disposal of the proceeding being G.R. Case No.582 of 2021 presently pending before learned Additional Sessions Judge, 7th Court, Paschim Medinipur. Being aggrieved by the inordinate delay caused in disposal of the said proceeding, learned Counsel for the petitioner submits that the present criminal case was registered on 25th February, 2021 and after completion of investigation, police submitted charge-sheet on 30th June, 2021. Thereafter, the case was committed and the charge-sheet was framed on 27.04.2023. Thereafter, victim’s evidence started on 17.08.2023 and after about 2 years it concluded on 11.06.2025. Thereafter about 16 dates have been fixed by the Trial Court but no further witness could be examined due to latches on the part of the prosecution and the prosecution is getting indulgence for deferring the case for an indefinite period. Therefore, he prayed for necessary direction upon the Court below. 2 Having heard learned Counsel for the petitioner, it appears that the prayer made by the petitioner is innocuous and if it is allowed in terms of the prayer made in the application, the opposite party will have no cause to prejudice and, as such, service of copy of application upon the opposite party is dispensed with. Having considered submission made on behalf of the petitioner that the trial has practically got stalled since 05.08.2025, I find that the prayer made by the petitioner is justified and is required to be allowed to secure the ends of justice. In view of above, CRR 3505 of 2026 is hereby disposed of with a direction upon the Court below to make every endeavour for expeditious disposal of the proceeding being Sessions Case No.71(06) 2022 presently pending before Additional Sessions Judge, 7th Court, Paschim Medinipur and to make his best effort to conclude the entire proceeding preferably within a period of six months from the next date of hearing, without granting any unnecessary adjournment to either of the parties. Parties to act on a server copy of this order duly collected from the official website of the Hon’ble High Court, Calcutta. ( Dr. Ajoy Kumar Mukherjee, J. )
