1 IN THE HIGH COURT AT CALCUTTA [ CIRCUIT BENCH AT PORT BLAIR ] *** WPA/38/2026 Shri Ashok Adhikari Vs The Superintending Engineer and Another Mr. R. Sanat … for the petitioner Mr. S. C. Mishra … for the respondents February 17, 2026 [SR] Item No.17 The petitioner seeks electricity connection. Learned advocate appearing for the electricity authority submits that the petitioner requires such electricity connection for running an establishment. It is trite law that, a person in settled position is entitled to electric supply. There are different tariffs for different uses of electric supply. Electricity authorities will not be prejudiced if direction for electric supply is granted. In the event, the petitioner uses such electric supply for purposes other than domestic consumption, the electricity authorities, no doubt, will charge such consumption, in accordance with law. At the same breath, supply of electricity cannot be denied. In such circumstances, the electricity authorities are directed to effect electric supply to the petitioner, within four weeks from date, upon the petitioner complying with all requisite formalities and paying all costs, charges and expenses with regard thereto. WPA/38/2026 is disposed of without any order as to costs. ( Debangsu Basak, J. )
