Petitioner’s husband was serving as Peon in Vikasnagar Branch of Canara Bank at Dehradun, who died while in service on 07.07.2021. 3. According to petitioner, she made applications for compassionate appointment on 08.05.2023, 23.12.2025 and 23.03.2026; however, no decision has been taken in the matter so far. 4. Mr. Ashutosh Thakral, learned counsel appearing for the Bank submits that petitioner had made application to Branch Manager, who is not competent authority for the purpose. He submits that if petitioner makes application to the competent authority i.e. Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer, decision on her request shall be taken expeditiously. 5. The writ petition is, accordingly, disposed of with by permitting petitioner to make application to Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer of Canara Bank, claiming 2026:UHC:2808 compassionate appointment. 6. If petitioner makes application within three weeks from today, decision thereupon shall be taken as per law, within three months thereafter. It shall be open to the petitioner to submit application through email, apart from other modes. 7. The amount of gratuity and other terminal dues payable to the petitioner shall also be released positively within four weeks from date of presentation of certified copy of this order.
