COCP-972-2026 Date of decision: 27.07.2026 Rajinder Singh ...Pe!!oner Versus Gaurav Yadav, Director General of Police, Punjab ...Respondent
CORAM:
HON'BLE MR. JUSTICE DEEPAK GUPTA Present: Mr. Vaibhav Sehgal, Advocate for the pe!!oner. Mr. Ravinder Singh Rawal, AAG, Punjab. **** DEEPAK GUPTA, J. (ORAL) Learned State counsel has placed on record the compliance report by way of an affidavit of Gaurav Yadav, IPS, Director General of Police, Punjab. Annexed therewith is the order dated 17.07.2026 (Annexure R-1), whereby the representa!on dated 06.02.2026 of the pe!!oner has since been disposed of.
2. However, it is no!ced that the order Annexure P-1 as passed by this Court on 05.03.2025 was with the direc!on to dispose of the representa!on within three weeks, whereas the speaking order Annexure R- 1 has been passed on 17.07.2026 and that too a;er filing of the present contempt pe!!on, which clearly shows the lackadaisical approach of the respondents, who made compliance of the order only a;er the contempt pe!!on had been filed against them. The said approach is wholly reprehensible and the respondents are directed to be careful in future, otherwise strict ac!on in accordance with law shall be taken against them.
3. Since compliance has already been made, nothing else is required to be done.
