The petitioners who are members of Natidanga II Gram Panchayat seek police assistance so that the meeting fixed by the Prescribed Authority on 24th August, 2026 for election of a new Pradhan is held without any hindrance. The office of the Pradhan fell vacant upon removal of the Pradhan pursuant to which the Prescribed Authority, by a notice issued on 5th August, 2026 fixed the date of meeting for election of a new Pradhan on 13th August, 2026. The said meeting was postponed due to non-availability of police assistance. In view of the above, this Court is inclined to hold that since the date of meeting has been rescheduled on 24th August, 2026 the Officer in Charge, Thanarpara Police Station, being the 8th respondent herein, is directed to render necessary assistance to the Prescribed Authority so that the meeting is held peacefully without any disturbance from any corner whatsoever. The writ petition is disposed of. There shall, however, be no order as to costs. Since no affidavit is invited, the allegations contained in the writ petition are deemed not to have been admitted. Parties are at liberty to communicate the gist of the order to the concerned Authority at the earliest.
