1. In terms of the order dated 21st July, 2026 matter is taken up for consideration when Mr. Mitra, learned Advocate General appears on behalf of the State respondents and files report dated 30th July, 2026 of Joint Commissioner of Police, Headquarters, Kolkata and same is taken on record. Copy of the report dated 30th July, 2026 is made over to the learned advocate representing the petitioner.
2. It appears from the report dated 30th July, 2026 that adequate police force was deployed at the venue of the meeting and police force remained present till the stage and other materials were removed.
3. In addition thereto, learned advocate representing petitioner submits that there was deployment of police
personnel thereby permitting the petitioner to convene meeting on the scheduled date without any further hindrance.
4. However, it needs to be recorded that report reveals supporters of petitioner’s political party blocked both flanks of Cathedral Road which is contrary to the order passed by this Court on 15th July, 2026. When order was passed directing petitioner to keep one flank of Cathedral Road open for vehicular movement, such
order was required to be complied with in its true letter and spirit. Future violation of such nature shall be viewed by this Court seriously.
5. Application being CAN 1 of 2026 is allowed and
