29.07.2026 Sl. 11 AMR Ct.No. 237 CRR 3072 of 2026 Tamal Banerjee Vs. The State of West Bengal Ms. Swastika Chowdhury Ms. Ilika Nag … for the Petitioner Mr. Kallol Mondal, Ld. PP Mr. Pawan Kumar Gupta Mr. Sreyash Kumar Singh …for the State Learned advocate appearing for the petitioner submits that, in the present case, charges were initially framed by the learned Metropolitan Magistrate, 7th Court, Calcutta, on June 10, 2016, and the evidence of one witness was also recorded. Subsequently, however, in view of the fact that the charges had been framed under Sections 406 and 409 of the Indian Penal Code, the matter was taken up de novo before the learned Judge-in-Charge, 4th Special Court, Calcutta. It is the grievance of the petitioner that, till date, charges have not been framed by the learned Judge in the Court below. 2 Having regard to the inordinate pendency of the proceedings and the fact that the petitioner is a senior citizen aged about 71 years, this revisional application is disposed of with a direction upon the learned Judge-in- Charge, 4th Special Court, Calcutta, to conclude the hearing on charge within a period of three months from the date of communication of this order. If the charges are framed, the learned Court shall make every endeavour to conclude the trial within a period of one year thereafter, without granting any unnecessary adjournment to either of the parties. Accordingly, CRR 3072 of 2026 stands disposed of. Urgent certified website copies of this order, if applied for, be made available to the parties upon compliance with the requisite formalities.
