The petitioners who are the Pradhan and member of Sayestanagar-I Gram Panchayat submitted applications for removal of the private respondents/members of the Panchayat due to their absence in the meetings held by the Panchayat and on other grounds, which are yet to be considered. The petitioners seek a direction upon the Prescribed Authority to consider the applications. The applications appear to have been submitted under Section 11 of the West Bengal Panchayat Act, 1973. It is a fact that no time frame has been stipulated in the said provision for consideration of such applications. However since the applications are pending before the Prescribed Authority since 21st May, 2026, the Prescribed Authority and Block Development Officer, being the 3rd 2 respondent herein, is directed to consider and dispose of the same within four weeks from the date of communication of this order upon affording reasonable opportunity of hearing to all concerned including the petitioners and the private respondents, in accordance with law. The decision taken by the authority shall be communicated to the parties within a week thereafter. The writ petition is disposed of accordingly. There shall, however, be no order as to costs. Since no affidavit is invited, the allegations contained in the writ petition are deemed not to have been admitted.
