CORAM: HONOURABLE MR. JUSTICE PURNENDU SINGH ORAL ORDER 3 17-08-2026 Heard learned counsel for the parties.
2. The petitioner in paragraph no. 1 of the present writ petition has sought, inter alia, following relief(s), which is reproduced hereinafter:-
“(i) To issue a writ of mandamus commanding the respondent authorities to pay the family pension, gratuity and other monetary benefit which was not paid to the petitioner’s family members since the death of his father late Prakash Prasad who died during the service. (ii) To direct any other relief or reliefs to the petitioner which the petitioner is found to be entitled or as may be found just and proper by this Hon’ble High Court.”
3. Mr. Suryakant Kumar, learned counsel appearing
Patna High Court CWJC No.8595 of 2026(3) dt.17-08-2026 2/3 on behalf of the Punjab National Bank, informs that the revised PPO has already been issued, which has also been admitted by the Treasury Officer in his counter affidavit. The father of the petitioner was appointed as a Clerk in the office of the Zila Nibandhak, Bihar Sharif, Nalanda, in the year 1989 and died in harness on 18.10.1992. At the time of his death, the petitioner and her three siblings were minors. As per the applicable Government circulars, the petitioner is entitled to family pension. Learned counsel further submits that the delay in payment is not attributable to the Government authorities or the Accountant General, but is due to certain paraphernalia which has to be adopted by the Officers of the Punjab National Bank. He submits that the Bank authorities have assured that the necessary formalities will be completed and the entire amount payable to the petitioner shall be credited in his bank account within two weeks, without any further delay, so that the petitioner and her three siblings, being dependent upon the deceased employee, may not suffer any further harassment.
4. Considering the aforesaid submission made on behalf of the Punjab National Bank, the writ petition stands
disposed of.
5. In case, the amount is not credited well within a
Patna High Court CWJC No.8595 of 2026(3) dt.17-08-2026 3/3 period of two weeks into the account of the petitioner, the officers of the Bank will be held responsible and the petitioner is at liberty to take appropriate legal action against the officials of the Punjab National Bank.
