CRWP No. 8065 of 2026 1 IN THE HIGH COURT OF PUNJAB AND HARYANA AT CHANDIGARH (111) CRWP No. 8065 of 2026 Date of Decision : 13.07.2026 Tarsem Singh and another ...Petitioners Versus State of Punjab and others ...Respondents CORAM: HON'BLE MR. JUSTICE AMARINDER SINGH GREWAL Present: Mr. Vikrant Kumar Pujara, Advocate for the petitioners. Mr. Jasjit Singh Rattu, D.A.G., Punjab. *** Amarinder Singh Grewal, J.(Oral) 1. The petitioners are seeking a direction from this Court to respondents No. 1 to 3 to protect their life and liberty as they apprehend danger to their life & liberty from respondents No. 4 to 10 i.e. relatives of petitioner No. 1, who are objecting to the marriage solemnized by the petitioners. 2. Learned counsel appearing on behalf of the petitioners submits that petitioner No.1 was married to Kamaljit Kaur i.e. respondent No. 4 who allegedly deserted him after a few years of marriage. According to the petitioners, petitioner No.1 is now residing with petitioner No. 2 in a live-in relationship. However, the said relationship is not acceptable to the parents as well as the in-laws of petitioner No. 1, who are allegedly extending threats and intimidating the petitioners with dire consequences. Apprehending danger to their life and personal liberty at the hands of respondents No. 4 to 10, the petitioners submitted a representation dated 25.06.2026 (Annexure P-4) to respondent No.2 seeking protection. It is contended that despite the submission of the said representation, no action has been taken thereon till date. KANCHAN 2026.07.14 11:15 I attest to the accuracy and integrity of this order/judgment CRWP No. 8065 of 2026 2 3. Notice of motion was issued to the official respondents only. 4. Mr. Jasjit Singh Rattu, learned Deputy Advocate General, Punjab, who is present in Court, accepts notice on behalf of the official respondents. Learned counsel for the petitioners is directed to furnish a complete set of the paper book to the learned State counsel during the course of the day. 5. Without expressing any opinion on the legality or validity of the relationship claimed by the petitioners, or examining the evidentiary worth of the documents produced on record, the present petition is disposed of with a direction to respondent No. 2 to consider and decide the representation dated 25.06.2026 (Annexure P-4) within a period of four weeks from today. In the event the competent authority finds that there exists a genuine threat to the life and personal liberty of the petitioners, appropriate measures shall be taken strictly in accordance with law to ensure their protection. 6. It is, however, clarified that this order shall not be construed as granting immunity to the petitioners from any legal proceedings or action that may be warranted under law for any act or omission attributable to them. 7. The writ petition stands disposed of.
