The present petition has been filed under Article 226 of the Constitution of India seeking issuance of a direction to respondents No. 2 and 3 to ensure protection of the life and personal liberty of the petitioner from the alleged threat extended by private respondent No. 4. 2. Learned counsel for the petitioner submits that private respondent No. 4, who is allegedly a notorious person, in connivance with the local police, has been threatening to kill the petitioner and his family members. It is further alleged that respondent No. 4 is demanding a 25% share in the property in question or, in the alternative, two harvesting combines every season. Learned counsel contends that respondent No. 4 is openly extorting money from the petitioner without any fear of law. He further submits that, in order to safeguard the lives and liberty of the petitioner and his family members, the petitioner submitted a representation KANCHAN 2026.07.14 11:15 I attest to the accuracy and integrity of this order/judgment CRWP No. 8131 of 2026 2 03.07.2026 (Annexure P-7) before respondent No. 2 seeking necessary protection. However, no action has been taken thereon till date. 3. Upon issuance of notice of motion, Mr. Jasjit Singh Rattu, learned Deputy Advocate General, Punjab, who is present in Court, accepts notice on behalf of the official respondents. He submits that the jurisdictional police authorities are duty-bound to safeguard the life and personal liberty of every citizen and that the representation submitted by the petitioner shall be duly considered and dealt with in accordance with law. 4. Without expressing any opinion on the merits of the case or the veracity of the allegations levelled in the present petition, the same is disposed of with a direction to the jurisdictional police authorities to consider and decide the representation dated 03.07.2026 (Annexure P-7) submitted by the petitioner and to take appropriate action thereon strictly in accordance with law, within a period of four weeks from today. In case the competent authority, upon due verification, finds that there exists a genuine threat to the life and personal liberty of the petitioner, appropriate protective measures shall be extended in accordance with law. It is, however, clarified that the present order shall not be construed as an expression on the merits of the allegations made by the petitioner or as conferring any protection against any action that may otherwise warrant action under law. 5. The writ petition stands disposed of.
