Pursuant to the order dated 16th June, 2026 Inspector-in-Charge, Haldia Women Police Station, Purba Medinipur has filed a communication dated 12th July, 2026 and same is taken on record. 2. Copy of the communication dated 12th July, 2026 is made over to the learned advocate representing the petitioners. 3. It is disclosed in the communication dated 12th July, 2026 that previously a criminal prosecution was initiated based on a complaint lodged by respondent no. 6 being daughter-in-law of the petitioner i.e. Haldia Police Station Case No. 08/2026 dated 15th January, 2026 under certain provisions of BNS and Sections 3/4 of Dowry Prohibition 2 Act. Said criminal prosecution culminated into filing of charge sheet being no. 52/2026 dated 30th April, 2026. 4. On the contrary, twice petitioner no. 1 lodged complaints against respondent nos. 6 and 7 alleging that petitioners are subjected to abuse at the hands of their son and daughter-in-law. Those two complaints were lodged in the month of March, 2026 and April, 2026. Non Cognizable Reports were submitted. 5. There are allegations and counter allegations made by petitioners and respondent nos. 6 and 7 giving rise to separate proceedings. 6. Taking note of the case made out in the writ petition that petitioners being parents-in-law of respondent no. 6 are subjected to ill treatment and abuse, Inspector-in-Charge, Haldia Women Police Station is directed to provide protection to the petitioners when occasion will arise. Such protection shall be extended for a period of 30 days from date. 7. Petitioners shall be at liberty to approach jurisdictional authority under the Maintenance and Welfare of Parents and Senior Citizens Act, 2007 (hereinafter referred to as ‘said Act of 2007’) within the said period of 30 days. If any order is passed by the 3 jurisdictional authority under the said Act of 2007, concerned police authority shall take steps for implementation of the same. 8. Writ petition stands disposed of. 9. Urgent photostat certified copy of the order, if applied for, be given to the parties, upon usual undertakings. (Saugata Bhattacharyya, J.)
