The petitioners are the daughter and widow of late Hopna Mardi, an employee of the respondent nos. 2 and 3, who died in harness. The petitioner no.1 had made an application for appointment on compassionate ground, on the death of her father. This application made sometime in 2010 has been kept pending till date. 2. The petitioners on several occasions knocked the doors of the authorities and also filed application under Right to Information Act, 2005. Such steps were in vain. 3. In the meanwhile, similarly situated persons, who have given appointment on compassionate ground on a contractual basis, have been directed by this Hon’ble Court by its order dated June 22, 2026 to regularize their appointments in the post where they have been working. 2 4. In view of the afore-stated facts and circumstances, I direct the Principal Secretary, Department of Transport, Government of West Bengal, to dispose of the application of the petitioner no.1 for compassionate appointment considering the judgment of this Hon’ble Court dated June 22, 2026. The entire exercise will be conducted by giving a hearing to the petitioner with adequate prior notice by August 10, 2026. The resultant reasoned order will be communicated within a period of ten days thereafter to the petitioner and to the concerned authorities. 5. With these afore-stated directions, the writ petition is disposed of. 6. There shall, however, be no order as to costs. 7.
