The prayer sought in this application is to permit the learned Administrator General and Official Trustee of Tamil Nadu (AG & OT) to donate rice, groceries, provisions and apparels to 31 staff members of the Madras Advocates’ Co-operative Society Limited, worth Rs.10,000/- per person (Rs.9,000/- towards groceries and Rs.1,000/- towards apparels), total at a cost of Rs.3,10,000/- (Rupees Three Lakh and Ten Thousand Only) and to incur the said expense from and out of the accumulated fund of Madras Ordinance Pensioned Lascars Charities that corresponds to the Financial Year of 2021-22. 2. In support of this application, the learned AG & OT has filed a report and relying upon the same, he would submit that, the Madras Advocates’ Co-operative Society Limited runs a canteen for the welfare of the advocates as well as the litigants who come to the High Court and the staff of the High Court and other Courts within the campus of the High Court of Madras, but, due to the summer vacation, for the entire month of May, the canteen would be closed. There are 31 workers working in the canteen and for the whole month of May, there would be no salary for these 31 workers. Page 1 of 4 https://www.mhc.tn.gov.in/judis A.No.1897 of 2026 Therefore, every year, for their livelihood, food and clothing, a sum of Rs.9,000/- + Rs.1,000/- for each of the 31 staff, would be calculated and be paid. As during the yesteryears also, such kind of gestures have been shown from different Trusts. This year, such gesture could be shown by allocating a sum of Rs.3,10,000/- for the 31 workers of the Madras Advocates’ Co-operative Society Limited from the Madras Ordinance Pensioned Lascars Charities, where, necessary funds are available, he submitted. 3. Considering the said submissions made by the learned AG & OT, as well as having gone through the report filed in this regard by him, this Court is inclined to pass the following orders:- That the learned AG & OT is permitted to release a sum of Rs.3,10,000/- (Rupees Three Lakh and Ten Thousand Only) for the purpose of purchasing groceries, including rice and eatable items as well as minimum apparels for the 31 workers of the Madras Advocates’ Co-operative Society Limited. It is made clear that, the groceries and the minimum apparels shall be bought and be handed-over to the Madras Advocates’ Co-operative Society Limited for the purpose of utilization of the 31 workers.
