IN THE HIGH COURT OF ANDHRA PRADESH AT AMARAVATI
WP(PIL) NO: 115 of 2025 Bench Sr.No:-9 [3552] Sandeep Bhavan Pamarati ...Petitioner Vs. State Of Andhra Pradesh and Others ...Respondent(s) ********** Advocate for Petitioner: Party-in-Person Advocate(s) for Respondent(s): Mrs. S. Pranathi, Spcl. Govt. Pleader
CORAM : THE CHIEF JUSTICE DHIRAJ SINGH THAKUR SRI JUSTICE CHALLA GUNARANJAN DATE : 18th March 2026 P C : The issue that has been highlighted in the present PIL is with regard to the failure on the part of the official respondents to implement the provisions of the Dowry Prohibition Act, 1961.
2. It is not denied that Dowry Prohibition Officers have been identified and designated in every District by virtue of G.O.Ms.No.69, dated 24.06.1989. The provisions of the Act of 1961 and, in particular, Section 7 envisages that the Court would not take cognizance of the offence under the Act except upon a complaint by the person aggrieved by the offence, or a parent or other relative of such person, or by any recognised welfare institution or organization or a police report is filed, which reflects and constitutes an offence under the Act.
2 HCJ & CGR, J W.P.(PIL) No:115 of 2025
3. There is a complete mechanism prescribed for taking cognizance of the complaint or an offence based upon either personnel knowledge or a report by the police in that regard. In our opinion, no further directions are required to be given in this matter. The proceedings are, accordingly, closed. No costs.
Pending miscellaneous applications, if any, shall stand closed.
