Mr. Ankush Singhal, learned counsel, holding brief of Mr. Harshpal Sekhon, learned counsel for the petitioners. 2. Mr. B.C. Joshi, learned AGA with Ms. Shweta Badola, learned Brief Holder for the State. 3. By the instant petition, petitioner no. 1 – Pooja D/o Ram Chandra and petitioner no. 2 – Arun Kumar S/o Verendra, are praying for the following relief: “i. Issue a writ, order or direction in the nature of Mandamus commanding the respondents no. 2 and 3 to provide adequate security to the petitioners, and also to direct the respondents no. 4 to 9 not to interfere in the life and liberty of the petitioners, in any way. ii. Issue a writ, order or direction in the nature of mandamus directing the respondents no. 2 and 3 to decide the representation dated 24.03.2026 (Annexure No. 5) and provide adequate protection to the petitioners.” 4. It is argued by learned counsel for the petitioners that both the petitioners are major and they were in love and now, married on 22.03.2026 and they applied for registration of their marriage and marriage certificate is enclosed as Annexure No. 1 to the writ petition. With regard to age, they have enclosed their adhar cards and as per Adhar Card, date of birth of petitioner no. 1 is 02.02.2001 and date of birth of petitioner no. 2 is 01.02.2000. 5. It is also submitted by the learned counsel for the petitioners that family members of the petitioner no. 1, who are respondent no. 4 to 9, are against their marriage and there is threat perception from them and they are seeking protection from them. 6. Mr. B. C. Joshi, learned AGA for the State have not disputed that both the petitioners are major. 7. Admittedly, both of the petitioners are major and they have now married with each other without any compulsion and therefore, in such an eventuality, the State is under legal obligation to secure their life and security of the petitioners. 8. In such view of the matter, the instant writ petition is disposed of finally with the direction to the SSP, Udham Singh Nagar – respondent no. 2 to make an assessment of the threat perception and if he comes to the conclusion that there is any threat from respondent nos. 4 to 9, he shall take appropriate steps. In addition to this, SHO, Police Station – Pant Nagar, District – Udham Singh Nagar, is also directed to call upon respondent nos. 4 to 9 and advise them not to take law in their hand. 9.
