The State of A.P. and others ...Respondents ********** Advocate for petitioners : Sri Eluru Sesha Mahesh Babu Advocate for respondents : Smt S. CORAM : THE CHIEF JUSTICE DHIRAJ SINGH THAKUR SRI JUSTICE CHALLA GUNARANJAN DATE : 11th February 2026 P C :
The issue that was highlighted in the present Public Interest Litigation was failure on the part of the State to implement its own decision taken vide G.O.Rt.No.386, Municipal Administration & Urban Development (M) Department, dated 21.03.2007, which was issued pursuant to the interim
order dated 03.01.2007 passed by the common High Court at Hyderabad in W.P.No.2493 of 2006, envisaging constitution of Watchdog Committees at the district level for purposes of ensuring that the water bodies and tank beds are protected from encroachments.
2. The Joint Collector of the District was to be the Convener and Member along with eight other functionaries of the State as also one representative of the Non-Governmental Organization (N.G.O.).
3. The stand of the official respondents now is that instructions had been issued to all the District Collectors of the State to conduct the meetings of Watchdog Committees and further to submit the action taken reports in that regard.
4. Be that as it may, the grievance of the petitioners to us seems to have been redressed by the action taken.
5. Accordingly, the Writ Petition (PIL) is closed. No order as to costs.
Miscellaneous Petitions pending, if any, shall stand closed.
