THIS WRIT PETITION, COMING ON FOR ORDERS, THIS DAY, ORDER WAS MADE THEREIN AS UNDER: CORAM: HON'BLE MR. JUSTICE SURAJ GOVINDARAJ ORAL ORDER 1. The Petitioner is before this Court seeking for the following reliefs: i. Issue a Writ in the nature of mandamus, directing the respondents to consider the legal notice/representation vide Annexure-B dated 06.10.2025, submitted by the petitioner and pass appropriate orders for amendment of bye-laws of the 2nd respondent Sanga so as to provide adequate reservation for women in the governing body/ committee elections. ii. Issue a writ in the nature of mandamus directing the 2nd respondent Sangha to introduce appropriate reservation for women in the election process of its governing body/board of directors in accordance with the constitutional principles of equality, substantive justice and gender representation. iii. Gant such other order or direction as this Hon'ble Court deems fit in the facts and circumstance of the case, in the interest of justice and equity. 2. The Petitioner has submitted a representation on 6.10.2025 contending that there has to be - 3 - HC-KAR NC: 2026:KHC:26061 WP No. 6002 of 2026 reservation for woman in Respondent No.2-Society registered under the provision of the Karnataka Societies Registration Act, 1960. 3. A Society like Respondent No.2 is not a State under Article 12 of the Constitution and as such there cannot be a mandamus issued in respect of the membership of the Society directing the Society to consider any representation in respect of providing reservation for woman in the governing body/committee elections.
