The petitioner has filed the present writ application on the ground that the petitioner has made an application before the passport author ity on January 14, 2026 for renewal of the passport issued to the petitioner on the earlier occasion on March 28, 2025 which expired on March 27, 2026. 2. Learned counsel for the petitioner submits that after submission of the application for renewal of the passport on January 14, 2026, the application is pending before the police authorities for verification. Due to non-completion of the verification by the police authorities, the passport has not been renewed. 2 3. Learned counsel appearing for the State has submitted the report and submits that initially on August 2, 2024, the petitioner has applied for grant of passport and on verification it was found that altogether three criminal cases were pending and the petitioner has obtained ‘no objection’ from the concerned court where the criminal cases were pending and thereafter the passport was issued for a period of one year, w.e.f. March 28, 2025 to March 27, 2026. Again the petitioner has applied for renewal of the passport on October 14, 2025. On receipt of the application of the petitioner, verification report was called for and the police authorities could not get the complete verification for renewal of the passport and the same was closed. Again the petitioner has applied for renewal of the passport on January 14, 2026. During the enquiry it was found that the birth certificate which the petitioner has relied upon is having the address of place of birth as Aflepure, Bahadurpur, Sultanpur, Uttar Pradesh and the police authorities have made the request to the concerned authorities for verification of the birth certificate relied upon by the petitioner for issuance of passport and on receipt of the request from the police authorities, the Superintendent of Police, Sultanpur, Uttar Pradesh has sent a reply stating that the birth certificate which the petitioner has relied upon is not a genuine one and there is no 3 record available that the birth of the petitioner was taken place at Sultanpur. Learned counsel for the State also submits that there is a doubt about the nationality of the petitioner. 4. The application of the petitioner for renewal of the passport is pending before the police authorities for verification. The respondent No.3 is directed to conduct the enquiry with regard to the birth certificate relied upon by the petitioner as well as the nationality of the petitioner and to submit the specific report to the passport authorities within a period of three weeks from the date of receipt of this order. If the report is in favour of the petitioner, the passport authority shall take appropriate steps for issuance of the passport in accordance with law and if the report is against the petitioner, the same shall be informed to the petitioner within a week thereafter. 5. WPA 5633 of 2026 is disposed of. 6. The report submitted by the State be kept with the record. 7. All parties shall act on the server copy of this order duly downloaded from the official website of this Court. 8. Urgent Photostat certified copy, if applied for, be given to the parties upon compliance with all formalities. (Krishna Rao, J.)
