Mr. Bilal Ahmed, learned counsel for the petitioners.
2. Mr. K.S. Bora, learned Deputy A.G. with Mr. J.P. Kandpal, learned Brief Holder for the State.
3. Petitioners have approached this Court for protection. According to them, they were in love and they got married on 05.01.2026, as per muslim rites and customs at Haridwar, however, brothers of petitioner no.1 are not happy with their relationship and, therefore, they are extending threats to both the petitioners.
4. As per the documents enclosed with the writ petition, both the petitioners are major. In para-2 of the writ petition, it is stated that petitioner no.1 was earlier married to someone else.
Learned counsel for the petitioner submits that petitioner no.1 was divorced by her earlier husband, therefore, she is now free to get re- married.
5. Learned State Counsel submits that since both the petitioners belong to same faith and they are now legally married as per the rites and customs, applicable to them, therefore, they are entitled to protection for a reasonable time.

6. In view of law laid down by Hon’ble Apex Court in Lata Singh v. State of U.P. and another, (2006) 5 SCC 475, we dispose of the writ petition with direction to the S.H.O., Police Station Manglour, District Haridwar to provide protection to the petitioners for a period of six weeks. Upon expiry of six weeks, he shall assess the threat perception to the petitioners and take such measures, as are deemed necessary for their safety and security.
