1. The petitioner is undergoing a sentence of life imprisonment pursuant to his conviction for offences punishable under Sections 302/186/34 of the Indian Penal Code, 1860, Sections 25/27 of the Arms Act, 1959, and Section 68 of the Excise Act, in proceedings arising out of FIR No. 48/2001, registered at Police Station Rajender Nagar, Delhi. 2. By way of the present petition under Article 226 of the Constitution, the petitioner seeks issuance of a writ of mandamus directing the respondents, including the Sentence Review Board [“SRB”], to consider his case for premature release. 3. Issue notice. Mr. Amol Sinha, learned Additional Standing Counsel for the State, accepts notice on behalf of the State. This is a digitally signed order. 4. Mr. Siddharth Yadav, learned counsel for the petitioner, submits that the petitioner has already undergone 19 years and 9 months of imprisonment, including the period of remission. However, his case for premature release has not yet been placed before the SRB. 5. Mr. Sinha submits that an endeavour shall be made to place the petitioner’s case before the SRB in its next meeting. He further undertakes that, in the event the case cannot be placed before the next meeting, the same shall be placed before the meeting immediately thereafter. It is stated that, at present, the meetings of the SRB are held on a quarterly basis. 6. In view of the aforesaid, no further orders are sought in the present petition. The petition is, accordingly, disposed of in the aforesaid terms. 7. A copy of the present order be communicated electronically to the concerned Jail Superintendent for information and necessary compliance.
