By way of the instant petition, the petitioner seeks following reliefs: ―(a) Issue a Writ of Mandamus or any other appropriate writ, order, or direction directing Respondent No. 2 to forthwith correct the following details in the Petitioner‘s passport (File No. DL3070333457824) and issue a duly corrected passport to the Petitioner without levy of any additional fee: Date of Birth : from 27/02/1995 to 15/01/1995 Name / Surname : from PUNEET PANDAY to PUNEET PANDEY Father‘s Name : from SHEKHAR PANDAY to SHEKHAR PANDEY Mother‘s Name : from KAUSHILYA PANDAY to KAUSHALYA PANDEY (b) In the alternative, if it is maintained that corrections cannot be made in the existing passport, issue a Writ of Mandamus directing the Respondents to: (i) forthwith recall and/or impound This is a digitally signed order. Issue notice. The learned counsel appearing on advance notice on behalf of respondents accepts notice. 3. The case of the petitioner is that his first passport which was issued on 06.02.2008, when he was a minor, contained incorrect particulars relating to his name, date of birth and surname. After attaining majority, he sought correction of the said particulars, supported by his CBSE certificate, Aadhaar Card and other documents. However, the renewed passport issued on 23.04.2018 continued to reflect the incorrect entries. The petitioner thereafter made repeated applications and personal appearances from 2023 onwards, and submitted affidavits, a digitally verifiable Birth Certificate and other supporting documents. Despite the same, the passport issued on 18.08.2025 continued to carry the incorrect particulars, and his correction request was subsequently placed on hold. The petitioner‘s repeated representations, emails and RTI applications yielded no substantive response. Having received no reasoned decision despite his representation dated 08.04.2026, the petitioner was constrained to file the present writ petition. 4. In these circumstances, this Court finds it appropriate to direct that the present petition filed before this Court, be treated as a representation on behalf of the petitioner, in addition to the application filed by the petitioner before the respondents, and the respondents are directed to decide the same, within a period of four weeks from date, under intimation to the petitioner This is a digitally signed order.
