1. This is a writ petition filed under Article 226 of the Constitution of India seeking the following prayers :-
“A) issue Writ, order or direction in the nature of Mandamus directing the Respondent No. 2, to grant admission to the Petitioner for the academic year 2026-27 in the Commerce Courses/stream of Class XI; B) issue Writ, order or direction in the nature of Mandamus directing the Respondent no.1 to provide for list of all the schools within NCT of Delhi wherein Petitioner could get This is a digitally signed order. admission in Commerce Courses/Stream as an alternative arrangement. ….”
2. The brief facts of the case are that the petitioner cleared his Class 10th examination from National Institute of Open Schooling (“NIOS”) and secured 74% in Class 10th Board examination. 3. The petitioner applied for admission in Class 11th in respondent No. 2 school and was only offered admission in Humanities stream, whereas, the petitioner is desirous of pursuing Commerce stream. 4. For the said reasons, issue notice. 5. Mr. Rohatgi, learned panel counsel accepts notice on behalf of the respondent No. 2 and has handed over a letter dated 14.08.2026 from the respondent No. 2. The operative portion of the same reads as under:-
“Subsequently, the student requested a change of stream from Humanities to Commerce after the allotment had been made. He was informed that he should first complete his admission in the Humanities Stream and that his request for a change of stream to Commerce could be considered only after obtaining approval from the DDE (Zone-2). He was further informed that the process for stream change can be initiated only after admission has been taken in the allotted stream.
However, the student declined to take admission in the Humanities Stream and insisted that he would seek admission only in the Commerce Stream.”

once the petitioner completes his admission in Humanities stream and makes a request for change of stream to Commerce, the same would be considered after obtaining approval from DDE (Zone-2). 7. Mr. Rohatgi, learned panel counsel assures that as per his instructions the said approval will be liberally considered. 8. The respondent Nos. 1 and 2 are bound by the paragraphs reproduced above. 9. In case the stream of the petitioner is not changed from Humanities to Commerce, the petitioner shall be entitled to revive the petition. 10. With these directions, the petition is disposed of.
